Man Granted Bail after 9 Years on Remand

The man who has been accused of the rape and murder of Verlinda Joseph is expected to be released on bail tomorrow in a historic decision handed down by a high court judge.

The Constitutional motion brought forward by Human rights lawyer Martinus Francois on behalf of Eugene St Romaine in May last year ended with judge Francis Bell granting bail to the sum of $60,000 dollars.

Local Businessman Arrested for Unlicensed Firearm Possession

A local businessman and his son have been arrested by police after they were found to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Police reports indicate that officers attached to the Major Crimes Unit and the Criminal Investigations Department on Tuesday 6 August 2013 executed a search warrant on the property of Davidson Ernest, owner of Ernesco Inc situated at Cul De Sac, Castries.

Press Secretary reponds to news story on Commissioner Francois

A statement issued from the Office of the Prime Minister has categorically denied reports that Police Commissioner Vernon Francois has been sent of leave.

According to Press Secretary Jadia Jn Pierre Emmanuel, the attention of the Government of Saint Lucia has been drawn to a story on the online news site, “Caribbean News Now” allegedly written by a “Caribbean News Now Contributor”.

Fatal Shooting in the Babonneau area

Less than one month after the opening of the new Babonneau Police Station the first fatal shooting was executed by the officers attached to the station.

According to police accounts, the incident occurred in the wee hours of Friday August 09th.

Laborie Co-operative Credit Union Launches Mentorship Programme

The Laborie Co-operative Credit Union Ltd. will be disbursing a total of $34,000 to its 24 Scholarship holders on Monday August 12th 2013 at the Laborie Boys Primary School from 9:00a.m.  

The Credit Union will also be celebrating the launch of its mentorship program and the start of its annual summer camp.

CID News Report

Four male individuals have been detained in police custody after the execution of a search warrant at a house in City Gate, Castries about 7pm on Saturday 3 August 2013 by personnel attached to the Drug Unit.

Approximately 283 lbs of compressed dry green plant materials suspected to be Cannabis was recovered.

Local Reggae Artiste Donates to Children in Need

Internationally renowned St. Lucian reggae artiste and humanitarian Taj Weekes donated over 200 pairs of athletic shoes to children in need in St. Lucia. 

The donation which was coordinated through Mr. Weekes’ children’s charity, They Often Cry Outreach (TOCO) was facilitated by the Consulate General of Saint Lucia in New York.

Festival La Rose is Ready to Roll

The Cultural Development Foundation, on Thursday August 1st, released Saint Lucia’s official 2013 La Rose Festival Month of Events Calendar. The calendar lists the various events being held in communities around the island in the month of August to celebrate the La Rose Flower Festival.

St. Lucia Records an Increase in Tourist Arrivals

Officials at the St Lucia Tourist Board say the recent increases in tourist arrivals to the island in the first half of the year, has everything to do with strategy.

According to the Director of Tourism Louis Lewis, the formula has been driven by numbers and selling them to the major source markets effectively through the rigorous campaigns overseas
