LPM Responds on the Escalation of crime in Saint Lucia

The Lucian People's Movement (LPM) has signaled its unwillingness to rely on the government to take action to stem the escalation of crime in Saint Lucia.

This comes following claims by party leader Therold Prudent that the LPM has made several appeals to the United Workers Party when it was in power and to the current Labour administration of Dr Kenny Anthony, to convene a national consultation on crime that would involve all sectors of society.

Woman Arrested for Smuggling Cannabis into the Bordelais Correctional Facility

A 20 year old Bagatelle woman is currently in police custody after attempting to smuggle what appeared to be Cannabis to an inmate at the Bordelais Correctional Facility.

The incident occurred about 10:12 a.m. on Sunday, September 8, 2013 when the suspect came to visit an inmate at the prison.

4 Year Anniversary of St. Jude Hospital Fire Commemorated

The Parliamentary representative for Vieux Fort North has called on St Lucians to remember the families of the victims who perished in the St Jude Hospital fire four years ago.

A statement released by Mr Moses Jn Baptiste notes that all three individuals who died in the fire were from the Vieux-Fort North constituency. He says the families are, to date, still trying to cope with their tragic loss.

ECCO to receive Royalty payouts this week

Members of the Eastern Caribbean Collective Organisation for Music Rights (ECCO) Inc., are expected to receive royalty payouts this week.

The announcement was made by the organization’s General manager Steve Etienne who notes that the payments totalling some $340,000 will include fees collected in the ECCO territories for the period 1st January – 31st December 2012 from Broadcasting & General Licensing; Previously unidentified performances rescued from pending sources and royalties received from overseas territories.

Reports of an Assault of a United Workers Party Supporter at an SLP Meeting

Political tension reaches fever pitch at an SLP constituency Group meeting in Soufriere on Tuesday with reports of an assault of a United Workers Party supporter.

According to a statement from the organization the incident occurred on the evening of September 3rd 2013, when Hon. Harold Dalson and the Soufriere Constituency Group of the St. Lucia Labour Party initiated an open question and answer session.

Royal St Lucia Police Force Engages in Human Rights training Exercise

Members of the Royal St Lucia Police Force are among regional law enforcement personnel who have today been engaged in Human Rights training exercise organized by the Gay rights advocacy group, United and Strong.

The participants are expected to hear from members of the Lesbian Gay Bi-sexual and Transgender community, their experiences with police and how their human rights were trampled upon.

St Lucia Fire Service are Participates in Training Exercise

A total of 30 first responders from the St Lucia Fire Service are today participating in a training exercise on effective chemicals management in St Lucia.

The program has been organized by the Ministry of Sustainable Development , energy, science and technology anf jointly sponsored by the Quick Start Program trust fund under the United Nations Environment Program and the government of St Lucia.

Student Plight Invokes Reaction from Caribbean Union of Teachers

The general Secretary of the Caribbean Union of Teachers has reacted to news about the plight of students of the Fond Assau Combined School.

Reports indicate that the building which houses students is in a desperate state of disrepair and that rehabilitation works at the termite infested school were stalled over the summer vacation.

One local physician has made some damning pronouncements about abuses in medical sector that heavily impact the economy.

Dr Gerard Saltibus, says demands for sick leave from patients who do not need time off from work is on the increase. He believes it is being used as an excuse for employees not to report to work.

A post mortem examination is expected to be conducted on the body of a 19 year old man of Marchand.

Police Reports indicate that Santo Leopold was shot in the upper part of his body around 1:20 am on Saturday.

Woman Arrested for Attempting to Ship Cocaine

A Bois Patat woman is currently in police custody after attempting to ship a package out of Saint Lucia.

The incident occurred on Tuesday August 27, 2013 when she attempted to ship a package using a local shipping agency.  During an examination of the package by Customs personnel they discovered what is suspected to be Cocaine.
