St. Jude Hospital Records Birth of Two Sets of Twins for New Year
For the staff of the Maternity Ward at St Jude Hospital, 2017 has started with double the excitement over the birth of two sets of twins in as many days, during the first week of the New Year.
 
The first set of twins was born on January 5, 2017 to Tannisha Jules of Grand Ravine, Dennery. The bouncing baby boys were delivered at approximately 1:02pm and 1:06pm weighing five pounds five ounces and five pounds three ounces respectively.

Catherine Sealys says she immediately contacted local authorities when she was informed that a young woman had been arrested and incarcerated for two days in connection with extortion of a government minister and exposing nude images of Dr Ubaldus Raymond on social media without his consent.

Coordinator for National Centre for Human Rights Express Concern on Use of Force by Police Officers
The use of force by police officers has come into sharp focus again following the killing of a Fond Mange man by police in Marigot on Sunday.

The concern is being expressed by the Coordinator for the National Centre for Human Rights incorporated Mary Francis, who stressed the need for the officers to comply with the guidelines established last year. She believes that the move stemmed from the fallout from Operation Restore Confidence and the use of deadly force by the police which resulted in the death of citizens in 2010.

Newly Revamped Nobel Laureate Festival Launches
A celebration of the lives of St Lucia’s two Nobel Laureates has received the endorsement of the Governor General when it formally opened here on Tuesday.

The police Welfare Association has registered it support for one of its own who was involved in the fatal shooting of a Fond Mange resident in Marigot on Sunday.

The man identified as thirty nine year old Yves Rene alias “Nazarene”, was fatally shot during a police operation. He was conveyed to the Victoria Hospital where he was pronounced dead by a medical practitioner at 11:52 a.m.

The Department of Infrastructure, Ports and Energy has stressed its commitment to undertaking what is being described as much needed road repairs in the coming days.

In a statement released today, the department observes that the genesis of the Hurricane Season and the passage of Tropical Storm Matthew, as well as incessant rains have not only contributed to further deterioration of roads but have to a large extent prevented meaningful intervention in respect of timely repairs.
