Office of the Governor General Denies Reports of Dame Pearlette Louisy's Retirement

The office of the Governor General has denied reports that Dame Pearlette Louisy is set to retire by December 17th.

This follows reports of the resignation that first surfaced here in April when Prime Minister Allen Chastanet refused to be drawn on the matter. He would however note that it is ‘very unusual’ to have a Governor General in the position for such a long time.

Local Partners Await the Arrival of the First Vessels in ARC

Local partners involved in the Atlantic Ally for Cruisers race are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the first vessels in the nautical voyage, with a packed program of activities.

Spearheading the welcoming party for the sailors is the St Lucia Yacht Club which has planned among other activities an extempo night and a beach fun day in early December.

St. Lucia Government Initiates the Christmas Stimulus Programme

The government is moving to provide a short term financial reprieve for several thousand unskilled workers ahead of the Christmas season.

The announcement comes from the island’s Minister for Equity Lenard Montoute, who informed that the government has initiated Christmas Stimulus Programme that will offer people jobs in the various constituencies.

Hewanorra International Airport Expansion Among Topics Being Debated at Upper House

EU includes St. Lucia on Blacklist for Tax Haven Countries

A local Chartered Accountant has reacted with surprise to a report suggesting that St Lucia is among other world countries that have been blacklisted by the European Union on its first list of tax havens.

Barbados and South Korea are also on the list of 17 territories with the EU regulations on Tax havens.

Civil Status Registry Inadvertently Closes Due to Disruption to the Operations of Both Offices

Operations return to normal after the sudden suspension of services at the Civil Status Registry and Office of the Adjudicator.

The Civil Status Registry and the Office of the Adjudicator inadvertently remained closed for the better part of Tuesday, December 5, 2017. This, after an electrical fault resulted in temporary disruption to the operations of both offices.

Medical officials have issued a public reminder that 24 hour urgent care services which were being delivered at the Soufriere hospital have now been moved to the Etangs Wellness Centre.

This comes in the aftermath of a major fire that has rendered the facility inoperable.

December Festivals to Open this Weekend

The December Festivals opened this weekend with the staging of the Lantern competition at the National Cultural Centre, a showing that organizers have described as impressive.
