Ministry of Health Urges Caution Despite Decline in Number Conjunctivitis Cases On Island

Despite a reported decline in the number of conjunctivitis cases in the south of the island, the Ministry of Health has issued a public caution on how to stem the spread of the infection more commonly known as red eye.

Health officials stress that the most common causes of conjunctivitis are viruses and bacteria. It is very contagious and can spread easily from person to person.

Laborie Village to Celebrate the Achievements of St. Lucia's Governor General

The village of Laborie will celebrate the achievements of Dame Pearlette Louisy, as she observes the 20th Anniversary of her appointment as Governor General of St. Lucia.

The inaugural event will be a Thanksgiving Mass at the Church of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Laborie on Sunday September 10, 2017 at 9.00 a.m., followed by the renaming of “La Croix Road” in her honour. The second event scheduled for later in September will be the formal opening of The Iconic Laborian Information Centre at The Papèl at the Rudy John Beach Park.

S&S Security Officials Robbed

Security officers employed at the main branch of S&S the Price Busters on Micoud Street, Castries were robbed this morning while on their way to the bank with an undisclosed sum of money, reports say.

Initial reports suggest that the two security officers were walking to a vehicle with the cash in hand when they were accosted by two robbers.

Thousands Participate in Annual Pine Hill Fun Walk Exercise

The Pine Hill Fun Walk which has been dubbed the largest participatory sporting exercise in St Lucia took off with record figures on Sunday.

Over five thousand five hundred people turned up for the annual event which began at the Sab Playing Field and ended at Pigeon Island with 1300 medals distributed to the first walkers to cross the finish line.

As per Cabinet Conclusion #316 of 2017, the Government of Saint Lucia has endorsed the draft Biosafety Policy and issued instructions to the Attorney General’s Chambers to complete the Biosafety Bill and Regulations.

Stowaway Detained at Miami International Airport

Authorities say a stowaway on a flight from the Dominican Republic to Miami was spotted emerging from the plane’s wheel well and sent back home.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Mike Silva said Monday the man was a Dominican national.
