Firefighters have responded to a building on fire in Beausejour, Gros Islet.

Reports are that the building houses a factory that sells tiles – located near Real Foods, KFC’s main office.

Health Services at the Soufriere Hospital has been Suspended as a Result of Fire

Health services have been suspended at the Soufriere hospital after fire tore through a section of the facility in the early hours of Thursday morning.

According to the Parliamentary representative for Soufriere Herod Stanislaus, the blaze started in a room where patient records were kept. He credited the swift action by firefighters for containing the blaze to only area of the hospital. A clean up exercise began immediately in an effort to return normalcy to the hospital.

Events Company of St Lucia Launches Soleil Festival 2018

The Soleil Suite of festivals along with a full calendar was unveiled when Events Company of St Lucia launched its 2018 program.

Industry partners gathered for the unveiling at the Sandals Grande to get the core line up for the Food and Rum Festival scheduled for January 12th to 14th, Saint Lucia Jazz from May 6th – 13th, Saint Lucia Carnival from June to July 2018 followed by Roots & Soul, August 31st to September 2nd. The festival will culminate with Arts & Heritage Month in October.

On Monday the 6th day of November 2017 about 8:00am, officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department, Castries received a report of a suspicious death.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Shervon Ashton a twenty-four (24) year old resident of Bocage, Castries.

On Tuesday November 7th about 6:10 am, the body of Shervon Ashton was discovered at Crown Lands, Bexon. Thereafter, officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department proceeded to the scene to conduct investigations.

Fuel Prices Remain Unchanged in St. Lucia

The Public is being notified of the price adjustments in fuel in keeping with changes in international oil prices and Government’s application of the modified market pass-through petroleum pricing mechanism.

The retail prices of diesel, LPG 20, 22 and 100 lb cylinders have been changed but the retail prices for gasoline and kerosene remain unchanged. The new price changes take effect from Monday, November 6, 2017:

UWI Records 5.7 Magnitude Earthquake

The seismic research Unit of the University of the West Indies has confirmed the occurrence of a 5.7 magnitude earthquake on Sunday morning.

According to the Director at the National Emergency Management Organization Velda Joseph, the quake was reported as felt in several Caribbean islands, including Trinidad, St Lucia and Grenada. However she notes that there have been no reports of major damage.

One family of eight is now homeless after a fire gutted through their Hospital Road home in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

Home owner, and father of six, Vaughn Cadet says the fire apparently started in the neighbours house around 1am.

Texas Church Massacre Claims the Lives of More than Two Dozen Worshippers

A church massacre on Sunday in Texas that claimed the lives of more than two dozen worshippers has caused certain sections of the society to reflect on an eighteen year old tragedy here.

The 2001 one attack resulted in the death of two people and left dozens more wounded when two men wielding machetes stormed the Roman Catholic cathedral in St. Lucia's capital during Mass, hacking worshipers and setting some on fire with a blowtorch and fuel.
