Vincent McDoom to be Spotlighted on the International Stage
St. Lucian designer and fashion model Vincent McDoom who was among key players in one of the new components of the now revamped Jazz and Arts Festival is set to take the spotlight on the international stage.

He is set to take on a major role in one of the biggest international fashion trade shows, Labo Ethnik Fashion and Lifestyle, which will take place from May 22nd - 26th in Paris.

Post Mortem Results Released on Crew Member Who Died Aboard Vessel
Health Officials here have released the results of an emergency post mortem examination conducted on the body of a crew member who died aboard a cargo vessel bound for St Lucia from Guyana. The announcement was made during a news conference held at the conference room of the Ministry of Health earlier today.

Senior Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health Dr Sharon Belmar George disclosed that the report revealed respiratory failure due to complications from pneumonia.

Family Seeks Compensation for Children's Vehicular Accident
The family of two of the children who were killed in a horrific vehicular accident near the Gros Islet Fire Station some nine years ago says they are no longer seeking justice, but compensation for their loss.

Mr John Phillip who has been at the forefront of the matter on behalf of the family says he has been hopelessly seeking the assistance of any local attorney who would be brave enough to take on the case.

Cargo Vessel Detained in Saint Lucia - 1 Crew Member Pronounced Dead
The Ministry of Health is working with the St Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority and local police and emergency services, in the management of what authorities believe to be a potentially high risk situation.

Reports confirm that Ministry of Health officials were alerted to the arrival of a cargo vessel from Guyana en route to the Vieux Fort Seaport  about 4 am on Sunday March 9th.

“21 Days” to be Featured again this Sunday
An open invitation has been extended to St Lucians to see the movie “21 Days” which will be figured on the big screen at Caribbean Cinemas again this weekend. That's according to local Producer dale Elliot, who has expressed gratitude to St Lucians for what he described as overwhelming support at the premiere on Tuesday.

Mr Elliot says based on the surprising turnout, the movie will again be featured this Sunday.  He believes that the Tuesday’s Premiere is just the tip of the iceburg when it comes to the amount of raw talent in the local film sector.

Hon. Harold Dalsan Recuperates After Undergoing Surgery
The Office of the Prime Minister has advised the public that Hon. Harold Dalsan, Parliamentary Representative for Soufriere/Fond St. Jacques and Minister for Social Transformation, Local Government and Community Empowerment, has successfully undergone surgery in Cuba to address persistent neck pains which he had been suffering from over the past few months.

As was announced last month, specialized investigations revealed that the pain was as a result of the presence of a prolapsed C5/6 disc.

Martinique Gommier Yacht Race to Begin Friday 14th
The Martinique Gommier Yacht race will take place on Friday 14th March with 18 yachts leaving Martinique at 9 a.m. and expected to arrive at the Gros Islet Water Front at 12.30 p.m.  

Upon the arrivals of the yachts, a welcome ceremony which is organized by the Gros Islet Constituency Council and the St. Lucia Tourist Board will be held at the Gros Islet Water Front and the Trophies and Certificates will be presented to the winners and participants.

Dennery Bridge to be named 'Alba'
A declaration made by Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony, indicating that a bridge which is now under construction in Dennery will be known as the ALBA Bridge has been described as interesting.

The news appears to have further fuelled questions from the Opposition United Workers Party about the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of the Americas and St Lucia’s membership in the bloc.

21 Days Movie Released
Controversy brews ahead of the premiere of the movie 21 Days, between St Lucian producer Dale Elliot and the author of non-fiction book titled Glory Days & Tragedy, Therold Prudent.

In a statement released earlier today, Prudent says he welcomes the idea of his work being produced locally and would like to encourage the people of Saint Lucia to turn out in large numbers to support this monumental achievement. But, he has expressed his deep disappointment in Mr. Elliott’s decision to not seek his input and guidance and to not ensure that there was a greater role for persons within the Gros Islet community during the production of the movie.

Police Investigates Death of 43 year old Male
Officers attached to the Major Crimes Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 43 year old Francis Auguste of La Croix Maingot, Castries.

It is alleged that on Thursday, February 27, 2014, the deceased was involved in a physical altercation with a known individual on Jeremie Street, Castries. As a result of that altercation, Auguste received a blow to the face causing him to fall onto the pavement and sustained injuries.

Construction Stimulus Package Closes
Members of the public have been advised that due to the official closure of the construction stimulus package on February 28th, the cost of bringing goods covered by the package will now be adjusted to include levies which were removed under the program.

The taxes being referred to are 15% vat in cases where vat is applicable, Import duty ranging from 5 to 20 % and service charge of 5%.

Parents to Receive Financial Assistance for School Supplies following Christmas Eve Trough

Traffic Department Investigates Vehicular Accident along Deglos and Bexon Highway
Several persons were injured as a result of a serious vehicular accident which occurred at the intersection of Deglos and Bexon Highway, about 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2014.

Information reaching the police indicates that a motor pick-up driven by Joachim Lewis of Grande Riviere, Dennery and a motor omnibus driven by Wilson Roberts of Vieux Fort, were both travelling along the Bexon Highway in the direction of Castries. The two vehicles collided when the motor pick-up attempted to make a right turn into the Deglos Junction.

Visitor Arrivals Increase for the First Month of 2014
Following the posting of a record year in 2013 and perhaps the best performance on record to date for the tourism industry, the Saint Lucia Tourist Board is again basking in news of increases in visitor arrivals for the first month of 2014.

The year opens with the month of January recording a 7% increase in stay-over arrivals by air and ferry over the same period in 2013. Statistical data reveal that a total of 27,643 stay-over visitors set foot on Saint Lucian soil for the month of January 2014.

Pope Francis Voices Concern on the Recent Unrest in Venezuela

Pope Francis says he is concerned about recent unrest in Venezuela, in which at least 13 people have died.

Speaking at the end of his weekly general audience, the Pope said he hoped that 'violence and hostility will cease as soon as possible.' He called on the Venezuelan people to promote reconciliation through mutual forgiveness ans sincere dialogue.
