Football coaches around St Lucia are today being sensitized on how to identify victims of child abuse. The initiative forms part of a program organized by the Department of Gender relations that focuses on various target groups in an effort to address the pervasive problem.

Clinical psychologist Ginelle Nelson spoke to our news desk on the significance of the program. She says the participants can expect to increase their knowledge base on child abuse as a first step to assisting the young victims.

Ms Nelson spoke to the prevalence of child abuse in St Lucia noting that 2 in every 10 children suffer some form of abuse.

She says in most cases people are unaware of what is triggering their behavioural problems.

The child abuse sensitization workshop is taking place at the Palm Haven Hotel
