Local weather forecasters have cautioned that intermittent rainy conditions experienced here over the past few days have done little to improve drought conditions that have gripped the island since the start of 2015.

The situation has necessitated a water rationing system currently being employed by WASCO in its distribution of the precious resource, because of the severe depletion at the John Compton Dam.

Speaking on the situation weather forecaster Venantius Descartes notes that the island has not seen the level of rainfall required to end the drought period.

Mr Descartes says despite the June 1st start of the Atlantic Hurricane season, the island can expect below normal rainfall.

Dry conditions are not only affecting the Caribbean but parts of the United States as well
