Major works conducted on the John Compton Dam on Wednesday have been nearly completed and the mains have been reopened.

The announcement comes from the Managing Director of the Water and Sewerage Company Vincent Hippolyte following the closure of the reservoir.

Despite public apprehension about the timing of the closure Mr Hippolyte reports that while most of the works have been completed, remedial works are scheduled to continue.

Mr Hippolyte has also provided an update on the capacity at the dam following the passage of a tropical storm on Monday.

He notes that while it has improved, the water company will continue its water rationing system due to the drought conditions that continue to persist.

Mr Hippolyte says while the distribution mains have been reopened, it will not be restored to all St Lucians at the same time.
