The launch of a National Health Helpline that will assist people who are unable to deal with overwhelming personal issues has been officially launched today.
It comes after months of discussion at a time when St Lucia continues to record increasing numbers of suicides.
Director at the Mental Wellness Centre Charmaine Hippolyte Thomas says officials are hopeful that people using the free service will be able to access the appropriate level of attention from qualified personnel.
She has shot down concerns however that the people who need assistance may not be as willing to share their problems with strangers over a telephone.
Mrs Thomas notes that the free service is being made available through the efforts of Lime and Digicel.
She adds that the helpline is now open
The official ceremony to launch the National health helpline took place at the conference room of the Mental Wellness Centre
