Staff and Clients of the Mental Wellness Centre were in attendance at the formal opening of Suicide Prevention week which was formally launched on Sunday September 6th with a church service at the Temple of Faith Pentecostal Church in Odsan.
Suicide Prevention Day is commemorated worldwide on September 10th. This years’ theme is "Preventing suicide reaching out saving lives."
Speaking at the exercise was the Director of Turning Point Joanna Joseph who remarked that depression which is sometimes triggered by personal pressures is treatable and suicide is preventable.
Meanwhile Dr Naomi Jn Baptiste Consultant Psychiatrist says Suicide Prevention week aims to raise awareness that early intervention in cases of mental illness can help to save lives.
Sunday’s event included a special musical rendition which was delivered by the Resident Choir of the Mental Wellness Centre.
