Another neurological disorder is currently affecting Zika patients in Martinique.
In addition to microcephaly the World Health Organization has confirmed that the Zika virus can cause Guillain-Barré syndrome. This is a disorder in which the body's immune system attacks part of the nervous system. In severe cases the disorder can cause patients to become paralyzed.
Grenada’s acting Chief medical officer Dr.George Mitchell has commented on the developing situation
Meanwhile Medical officer for the Ministry of Health Mrs. Sharon Belmar George says although there are various causes of Guillain-Barré syndrome the ministry is prepared to tackle any cases of the neurological disorder.
The University Hospital in Martinique is assisting the Ministry of Health in relation to this matter.
