The Government has hinted at the possibility of set dates for general elections.

The suggestion was made on Tuesday during the Throne Speech delivered by Dame Pearlette Louisy ahead of the presentation and debate on the estimates of Expenditure.

According to the governor general the proposal for fixed elections dateshas already been considered in Britain and the local government is warming up to the idea.

The assertion comes amid debate on what has been seen as a  clear advantage by incumbent governments who use the element of surprise in the Westminster system.

But in the absence of any conclusive pronouncements on the matter, Dame Pearlette has urged citizen to exercise their democratic right to vote.

General elections are widely expected to be called some time this year
