Medical surveillance at the island’s ports of entry continue despite news that ZIKA virus infections have been confirmed and are growing in the US.

Advisories had been issued for travellers to the Caribbean where the Zika virus is now prevalent.

According to Dr Michelle Franciois, the surveillance for diseases continues at air and sea ports in an effort to keep the situation under control and to stay on guard for any other diseases that may pose a threat to the country.

Dr Francois also notes that education and sensitization exercise continues here in an effort to eliminate breeding sites for the aedes Egyipt mosquito.

The Zika virus is spread by the same vector responsible for chikungunya and dengue fever
