The head of the St. Lucia Cricket Association has confirmed that the Captain of the West Indies T20 Squad has been cut from the new thirteen man squad.

News of the sacking surfaced last week when Daren Sammy revealed via social media that he had been informed of the decision in a thirty second call from the head of the Selectors.

In an interview with RCI news on Monday Julian Charles who is also a member on the WICB informed that the decision on the captaincy had not been ratified by the Board. He said a decision would have been made late Monday.

Charles has confirmed that Sammy who is no longer the Captain of the T20 squad has also been cut from the team.

The St Lucia Cricket Association President would not comment on the WICB’s reaction to suggestions of intended protests over the decision to cut Sammy from the team. He however disclosed the reason for the sacking.

Carlos Brathwaite has been named Captain of the new T20 squad.
