The Marine Consultant in the Ministry of Tourism is raving the success of the yachting sector which has recorded double digit growth for the first half of the 2016.

Cuthbert Didier credits the increase to St Lucia’s participation is several nautical events overseas.

As of June 2016, yacht arrivals were 28.8 percent higher than the same period last year with a 32.4% percent recorded at Rodney Bay and 18.6% at Marigot Bay.

Didier says the recorded growth in the yachting sector, indicates the need for a greater level of investment from the government. He observes that it can only serve to boost the island’s appeal  and increase more diverse visitor arrivals here.

Despite the growth being recorded in the industry, Didier stressed that there appears to be a lukewarm approach to promoting it by key industry officials
