A teenager who gave birth to a baby girl while incarcerated at the Bordelais Correctional Facility has been released.
The issue has been widely debated in the media since reports that the young woman had been a ward of the state since she was 10 years old.
Raise Your Voice St Lucia had been a strong advocate for the release of the teenager and her baby especially after claims that the young mother was being physically abused by another female prisoner who is on remand at the Bordelais Correctional Facility.
A family friend who picked up the teenager from the Prison today spoke briefly with RCI news. He informed that both mother and baby are doing well physically, but the road ahead may not be easy for them.
According to the St Lucia Times the young woman says while she was not mistreated during her incarceration, she was being provoked by another female inmate.
