The police Welfare Association has registered it support for one of its own who was involved in the fatal shooting of a Fond Mange resident in Marigot on Sunday.

The man identified as thirty nine year old Yves Rene alias “Nazarene”, was fatally shot during a police operation. He was conveyed to the Victoria Hospital where he was pronounced dead by a medical practitioner at 11:52 a.m.

PWA President Cameron Laure says Sunday’s incident highlights the need for police officers to band together and offer support during what he says is a difficult time for lawmen.

Laure says police remain mindful of the increased public scrutiny especially in cases of civilian killings, particularly in light of the fallout from Operation restore Confidence that resulted in 12 police killings. But he stressed that it will not affect their ability to carry out their law enforcement duties.

Investigations have commenced into this matter under the guidance of the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Upon completion of investigations, the file will be submitted to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, when a determination will be made as to how to proceed with the matter.
