Officers attached to the Babonneau Police Station are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 44 year old Peter Florent of Cabiche, Babonneau.
Information indicates that on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 about 3:00 p.m, Florent reported that an individual threw a stone in his direction, hitting him to the back of his head.
As a result of the injury sustained, Florent was transported to Victoria Hospital where he was treated and admitted in a critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit.
On Wednesday, November 14, 2013, 19 year old Vern Moffat of Cabiche Babonneau was arrested and charged for the offence of Dangerous Harm reference to the injury sustained by Peter Florent. He appeared before the First District Court on Friday, November 16, 2013, where he was remanded to the Bordelais Correctional Facility until November 28, 2013.
However on Friday, November 22, 2013 Peter Florent succumbed to his injuries. A post mortem examination was conducted on the body on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, with the results indicating that he died from brain damage secondary to blunt trauma.
As a result an additional charge of murder is expected to be laid against Vern Moffat at a later date.
