Suggestions made by a veteran politician to redesign the national flag have been met with strong resistance by a representative of the St Omer Family.
The national symbol was designed by the late Sir Dunstan St Omer and according to his son Alwyn St Omer, was a gift to the people of St Lucia.
The push for the colour red to be included on the flag is being made by Peter Josie who believes that the change will bear local significance to the political landscape here.
But Alwyn St Omer the suggestion to redesign the flag is ridiculous.
St Omer adds that the lack of historical knowledge may have prompted the call for alterations to the flag.
National Flag Day was observed on March 1st—Fifty years after the flag was first hoisted in St Lucia.
