The focus of World Consumer Rights Day is being described as timely following news of the arrest of a St Lucian man in connection with an ATM scam in St Vincent.
The global observance which was held under the theme “Building a digital world consumers can trust,” was held on March 15th.
According to the Assistant Secretary on the National Consumers Association Mathius Polius, the objective of the NCA is to inform and educate consumers on the use of technology especially when it comes to trading online. He adds that there is also a push for amendments to legislation that would address digital transactions.
Polius also recalled his own experience on a case involving ATM fraud.
Polius stressed that in addition to the push for consumer protection, the NCA is preoccupied with educating consumers on their responsibility.
