Less than one month after the opening of the new Babonneau Police Station the first fatal shooting was executed by the officers attached to the station.
According to police accounts, the incident occurred in the wee hours of Friday August 09th. Reports indicate that while returning home from a social activity, police (who allegedly did not identify themselves) ordered 30 year old Mandy Louisy of Chassin, Babonneau to remove his hands from his pocket.
Claims are that the officers proceeded to beat the unarmed man when he refused, and then shot him to death.
The shooting comes amid old and new concerns being expressed by the public over a recent damning human rights report that questioned actions taken by the police over what has been seen as extrajudicial killings in Vieux Fort.
