St Lucia’s Queen of Soca Nicole David has called for strong measures to be taken against the authors of a fake news article that has gone viral.

The story which was published by an online news source--Houston Chronicle, on Saturday, ran the headline “Soca Music Artiste Arrested at JFK Airport With Cocaine Tapped to Her Legs”.

David recalls dismissing the story when she was first alerted to it, but several calls later, she grew very concerned about how quickly the fake news had spread and the comments it drew from the public.

The soca artiste describes the ordeal as both ridiculous and surreal, stressing that the story is false and that she has never been involved in drug trafficking.

David adds that the situation is hurtful and damaging to her career and image as a performer who promotes drug free lifestyles to the youth. She further notes that it has caused her to develop a phobia for travelling.

Nicole David is not the only St Lucian personalities who fallen victim to such damaging fake news. Teddyson John has also been targeted as well as local comedian Carlton “Coaks” Cyril.
