The protection of Saint Lucian citizens, visitors and the environment from the harmful effects of toxic Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) continues to receive top priority on the national agenda.
As such the National Ozone Unit in the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology is intensifying inspections of Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS), refrigerants and their products weekly until the end of the festive season.
These inspections take place at the sea ports of entry where the majority of imported items are processed.
The National Ozone Officer and Sustainable Development and Environment Officer Miss Donnalyn Charles says this is in keeping with Saint Lucia's international commitments as a signatory to the Montreal Protocol which requires the country takes steps to phase out the importation and use of ozone depleting substances.
