A former General Manager of state owned Radio St Lucia has described the pending shut down of the media house and other government funded entities as a colossal mistake.

Winston Springer made the comments today during a news conference held at the SLP headquarters, accusing the United Workers Party of putting profits over people.

The closure of Radio St Lucia comes following a review into its operations which reveal that the entity has been struggling under a huge debt burden.

Springer states that while Radio St Lucia has served successive governments, it has been largely neglected.

Meanwhile, Springer pointed other parts of the region facing similar challenges and their decision not to discontinue financial support for these entities.

Suggestions are that staff at radio St Lucia are expected to be integrated into government ministries, when the closure of the station takes effect.
