St Lucian spirits and cuisine are expected to feature prominently when the Food and Rum festival opens here from January 12th to 14th.


The highlight of the event which forms part of the Soleil Summer Festival will be a gala dinner hosted by Food Network acclaimed Chef Marcus Samuelson on Saturday January 13th at the Coco Palm Ti Banane restaurant


According to the Communications Officer at the St Lucia Tourism Authority Charmaine Joseph, the idea is to recreate the Barack Obama Inaugural Ball dinner using local produce.


Joseph notes that the Tourism Authority is seeking to pitch the Food and Rum Festival as a luxury event in order to draw international attention to St Lucia.


A number of the best international journalists have been invited to the festival. It is hoped that the reviews will be able to attract visitors to the island from around the world.


Tickets for the gala dinner are on sale for $300 EC or $120US.
