World Cancer Day was observed on February 4th under the tagline “We can, I can”. The observance was use to examine the increased global impact that cancer has on people of all walks of life.
Cancer is one of the leading causes of mobility and mortality worldwide, and it is the second leading cause of death globally.
In Saint Lucia the primary Health Care Department of the Ministry of Health is doing its bit in sensitizing the public to the effects and implications of cancer.
Assistant Principal Nursing Officer, Tecla Jn.Baptiste is encouraging the public to get screened for the disease
In recent times, the number of cancer patients has increased exponentially with a greater number of children and younger persons indicating positive signs of cancer. However, Jn. Baptiste has placed emphasis on men, who she believes are more hesitant to access screenings.
Governments, medical practitioners and researchers throughout the world are continuously working towards finding a cure for Cancer.
