Marine Consultant in the Ministry of Tourism Cuthbert Didier has launched a scathing attack on the St. Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority for what appears to be inaction to ensure the safety of life and property of sailors using the island’s ports.
This comes after what Mr Didier claims are numerous reports of theft and vandalism of yachts berthed at certain locations here.
He says the problem which has been left largely unaddressed by authorities is believed to be escalating.
Mr Didier has called on Port authorities for swift action in laying down the law. He has identified others who have been lobbying authorities to address the worsening situation, albeit in vain. He says it is time for SLASPA to step up to the plate.
The issue has come to the fore after a British yachtsman was killed and his wife injured during an attacked aboard their vessel. Roger and Margaret Pratt were vacationing here at the time.
