Guyanese in St Lucia, and at home, are today in celebratory mode, as they observe the 48th Anniversary of that country’s Independence.

Among them is a veteran broadcaster and sports commentator Joseph Reds Pierra who recounted some of the events leading up to the moment when Guyana become responsible for its own affairs.

He recalls having mixed emotions, noting that for many people it was a worrying moment about the future.

Meanwhile, Guyana’s honorary council to St Lucia Lokesh Singh has described the mood among Guyanese as celebratory, noting that his office has been working with the Guyana St Lucia association to coordinate activities locally to commemorate the event.
