Carnival 2014 opens this weekend with all the fanfare that surrounds the festival when it returns to the Mindoo Philip Park on Sunday.

Carnival Director Teddy Francis says a decision was taken by the Carnival Planning and Management Committee, that the pomp and hype that is associated with the festival should be displayed, despite the financial challenges being experienced at this time.

He adds that the opening show forms part of the commitments and obligations of the CPMA to deliver a carnival product to its sponsors and most importantly, the people.

Meanwhile, the Carnival has responded to a burning question in light of budget cuts for carnival stakeholders.

Concerns were raised this week about who would foot the bill for the official opening of Carnival.

The opening show takes place at the Mindoo Philip Park from 3pm on Sunday. Headlining the event is a former soca monarch title holder from St Vincent and the Grenadines Skinny Fabulous
