On Tuesday, December 23, 2014, the Bordelais Correctional Facility will be graced with the inaugural visit of Archbishop Robert Rivas. The Archbishop will also conduct a special mass at the facility’s chapel. A select group of prisoners will attend that mass as well as officials of the facility.
Officer in Charge of the Bordelais Correctional Facility Mr. Wayne Charley says the initiative will continue on a monthly basis in the New Year.
“Spiritual activity is an important part of our rehabilitative programme. In regard to this special mass, it is aimed at bringing some spiritual cheer to inmates. His Grace has made the commitment to celebrate mass with us every month and we are very much appreciative that he has made this commitment.”
According to Charlery the religious and spiritual development of the inmates are catered to through the facilitation of a number of religious groups and denominations, which visit the prison for this purpose. Some seventy inmates of the Catholic faith will attend the mass which will begin at 10:30 am Tuesday.
Archbishop Rivas is the Roman Catholic head of the Archdiocese of Castries in St. Lucia.
