Three Week Training Camp with off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq to be held in Barbados

Pakistani off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq, the cricketer generally credited with the discovery of the much-acclaimed 'Doosra' delivery, is now set to provide his insights into the art of spin bowling in a three-week training camp for West Indies players in Barbados.

That is according to Saj Sadiq, senior editor at PakPassion.net. "Otis Gibson, the West Indies head coach, on behalf of the West Indies Cricket Board, asked me to work with the West Indian spinners, and I had no hesitation in saying yes. It's a new challenge for me, and one that I'm really looking forward to," the website quoted Saqlain yesterday.

Mixed Results for Host Saint Lucia on the Opening Night of the Caribbean Table Tennis Championships

The Caribbean Table Tennis Championships started on a high note on Tuesday evening with the Formal Opening ceremony. Minister for Youth Development & Sports, Hon. Shawn Edwards declared the championships formally opened and acknowledged that the hosting of the Championships was an indication of St. Lucia’s emerging position as a sports destination.

He also expressed hope that the efforts of the SLNTTA in hosting and participating in the championships, could serve as a catalyst for the development of young players to the sport.

Caribbean Table Tennis Champions Set to Begin

Top table tennis players from throughout the region will converge on Saint Lucia on Tuesday. That’s when the Caribbean Table Tennis Championships serves off at the Beausejour Indoor Practice Facility with the formal opening ceremony followed by opening matches.

The opening will feature a number of officials including the Island’s Sports Minister, Juan Villa, President - Caribbean Regional Table Tennis Federation, as well as delegates and players from eleven confirmed countries.

St. Lucia Wins Gold Medal at Junior Women's Tournament
St. Lucia rebounded from a set down to beat Antigua/Barbuda 3-1  to pouch the gold medal in the 2013 Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association Junior Women’s Tournament, which concluded at the Beausejour Multi- Purpose Indoor Sports Facility.

Like their first meeting, a pumped up Antigua and Barbuda brought the fight to the host, but the St Lucians weathered the storm, then mounted a comeback, which was maintained for the next three sets to win (19-25, 25 17, 25-16, 25-17) .

Saint Lucia Olympic Committee Continues With Anti Doping Education Campaign

The UNESCO funded Anti Doping Education Campaign, spearheaded by the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee will resume this coming Saturday.

This third cycle of seminars and workshops will take place at the Camille Henry Memorial School at L’Anse Road. The campaign which is expected to last some six months commenced in June, 2013 and has seen two rounds of seminars and workshops completed to date.

2013 Blackheart Knockout Football Tournament Begins!
The 2013 Blackheart Knockout Football Tournament kicked off at the weekend as team battle for the $15,000 cash prize on offer.

In the tournament’s opening match on Saturday evening Roseau Valley won over Vieux Fort South 4-2 on penalty kicks following a 1-1 draw. Kevin Edward had put Vieux Fort South ahead in the 36th minute with Fabian Raymond equalizing for Roseau Valley in the 63rd minute. Roseau goal keeper Kevin Antonie was named Bizz Up player of the match.

Coolie Town receives Playing Kit from VSADC Youth Academy

The newly established Coolie Town grassroots football program received a tremendous boost on the weekend through a donation of a playing kit from the VSADC Youth Academy.

The Coolie Town grassroots program, which is headed by former General Secretary of the Football Association Evastus Agustin, targets at risk youth in the community and engages them through football.

St. Lucia Zouks plays their best game at the CPL games

An extended rain interruption kept St Lucia Zouks' CPL hopes alive as they won by 17 runs (Duckworth-Lewis method) against Antigua Hawksbills on Thursday.

The Zouks posted their highest total of the tournament, scoring a formidable 179 for 4. Opener Andre Fletcher played a pivotal knock for the Zouks, scoring 76 off 53 balls and adding useful partnerships with the middle-order batsmen.

SFA Reaffirms Support for the Blackheart Tournament

The Saint Lucia Football Association has committed its support for the privately run Blackheart Knockout Football Tournament. That disclosure was made last evening by the F.A president, Lyndon Cooper.

Cooper was speaking at the Press Launch and Fixture Draw for this year’s edition of the popular football tournament. The event took place last evening at the Place Lounge of the Beausejour Cricket Ground.

U-15 Footballers sporting new training gear courtesy VSADC

The national U-15 footballers will be sporting a new training kit for the upcoming CONCACAF U-15 tournament to be held in the Cayman Islands.

The training kit was donated by local club champions VSADC to the U-15 squad before their departure to the Cayman Islands this past Friday.
