The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Massy United Insurance Under 19 School Cricket Tournament resumed on Tuesday after the long Independence celebrations weekend with victories for Sir Arthur Lewis over SDA Academy, Gros Islet Secondary over Castries Comprehensive and Clendon Mason Memorial over Micoud Secondary.
At the Monchy Playing Field, Sir Arthur Lewis registered a comfortable 107 run victory over SDA Academy. Batting first, Sir Arthur Lewis made 253 for 4 in their allotted 28 overs with Nyhymn Terrance top scoring with 61 not out. Other useful contributions came from Adeju Hobson with 43 not out, 41 each from Christian Charlery and Millan David and 25 from Simeon Dalkhan. Rumario Simmons was SDA Academy's best bowler picking up 2 for 19 in 6 overs.
In reply, SDA Academy never really challenged the target as they finished on 146 for 6 in their allotted 28 overs with Dudley Charles and Arnil Charles leading the scoring with 34 not out and 34 respectively. Captain Chaz Cepal also chipped in with 23. Millan David was Sir Arthur's most successful bowler, taking 2 for 20 in 6 overs.
At the Dennery Play Field, Clendon Mason completed a convincing 9 wicket victory over Micoud Secondary. Micoud Secondary batting first made 175 for 8 in their allotted 30 overs with the main contributors being Germaine Hardin with 40, Curtley Johnny 33 and Garvin Serieux 22. Bowling for Clendon Mason Memorial, Kerneil Cox 4 for 16 in 3 overs.
Chasing 176 for victory, Clendon Mason led by a superb century from Nixon Edmund, finished on 177 for 1 in just 16.5 overs. His match winning inning 120 the first of the tournament so far, included 6 fours and 12 sixes. Daniel Auguste also supported well with 35. Canaii Nerve was sole wicket taker for Micoud Secondary.
At the Gros Islet Playing Field, Gros Islet Secondary enjoyed a tense 7 run victory over Castries Comprehensive Secondary. Gros Islet Secondary batting, was dismissed for 191 in 28 overs with Mc Henry Cumberbatch making 45 and Nick Marius 18. Bowling for Castries Comprehensive Secondary, Stuart Calderon 4 for 26 in 5 overs, Azemiah Celestin 3 for 58 in 9 overs, Nick Elibox 3 for 59 in 10 overs and Shakym Scott 2 for 23 in 5 overs. In reply, Castries Comprehensive was bowled out for 185 in 38 overs falling short of their target by just 7 runs. Shervin Lubin led the scoring with 45, Nick Elibox 34 and Shakym Scott 23. For Gros Islet Secondary, the main wicket takers were, Marlon Bernard 4 for 38 in 7 overs, Lindon St. Juste 3 for 24 in 10 overs and female player Qiana Joseph, 2 for 21 in 7 overs.
The tournament continues on Wednesday with Leon Hess Comprehensive coming up against CARE at the Monchy Playing Field.
