Saint. Lucia defeated Antigua & Barbuda in the final series to dominate the ECVA Men’s BVB Olympic Qualifier part of the NORCECA Continental Cup that concluded on Sunday at beautiful Castaways Beach in Antigua & Barbuda.
St. Lucia conquered the event claiming first place unbeaten after three intense days of competition; there performance was demanding and showing determination to finish on top, while exhaustion proved to be no limitation to reach their objective.
The winners advanced to the final series beating Antigua & Barbuda 3-1 earlier in the day, which took the hosts to play one more series defeating St. Kitts & Nevis.
In the Gold Medal series, Agustin Faulkner and Coen Caesar of LCA-A defeated Constant and Yoshid Augiste of ANT-B in straight sets 21-14, 21-8, while Sheldon Descartes/Darnel Eudoxie LCA-B prevailed over Jamarie James/Collin Thomas ANT-A with great effort 2-1 (14-21, 21-17, 15-9).
“We had morning and evening practice to prepare mostly for the weather conditions; our tactics made the difference to conquer the tournament” said Agustin Faulkner.
Darnel Eudoxie added “we came out to win and expected a challenge; we trained hard and especially today, we played our best no to lose today’s first series against Antigua & Barbuda. It feels good to win, our hard work definitely payed off”.
The podium was completed by Antigua & Barbuda and St. Kitts & Nevis in second and third place respectively. These three teams, joined by Dominica, Dutch St. Maarten and St. Vincent complete the six team representing ECVA for the next round of the NORCECA Continental Cup.
