ST. Lucian Welterweight Amateur Boxer Lyndell “the Russian” Marcellin is back home from a month long visit to Russia. Marcellin returned to the island Monday afternoon via the Hewanorra International airport after participating at the World Amateur Boxing championships in Almaty Kazakstan and in the preparatory camp for the champions held before also in Almaty.
Also participating at the championships was ST.Lucian born English based heavyweight boxer Ryan Charles who also returned to England Monday as well.
Both Boxers bouts went the distance all three rounds, with both losing narrowly on points to their opponents from Turkmenistan and Chile.
Both boxers will continue preparations for their next big international engagement which is expected to be the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow Scotland.
Local based amateur boxer Marcellin along with the other local boxers earmarked for the Commonwealth Games Welterweight Ron Bastien, Kyghan Mortley and Middleweight Arthur Langellier will continue their preparations locally and are expected to feature on a major boxing card being planned by the ST.Lucia Amateur Boxing Association and The Guyana Amateur Boxing body sometime towards the end of November in Guyana. The ST.Lucian Boxers may also participate in the Ronald Wilson Memorial Boxing championships which is expected to be held in Barbados in December.
