The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports in collaboration with the St. Lucia Cycling Association will be hosting The Inter-schools cycling Championships on Friday December 13th 2013 from 11.00 am at the Castries City Circuit.
The championships will consist of 5 categories
- 10 years and under -Maximum gear 4.10 metres
- 11 - 12 years - Maximum gear 4.80 metres
- 13 – 14 years - Maximum gear 5.40 metres
- 15 – 16 years - Maximum gear 6.50 metres
- 17 – 18 years - Maximum gear 7.40 metres
The first event for all categories will be an obstacle and skills event designed by Coach Ramon Miguel Leal a Cuban coach attached to the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports. Mr. Leal is a former Cuban National cyclist placing second in the mountain category in his first tour of Cuba) 1971 and also a Tour of Cuba stage winner between 1972. Mr. Leal is also a multiple Pan American Masters Cycling Champion with over 40 years experience as a coach.
This will be followed by a 100metre Individual Time Trial for all categories and a 1 lap 700 metre Individual Time Trial for all categories
The mass starts event will follow with the following races
10 and under 1 lap or 700metres
11 -12 years 3 laps or 2.1km
12 – 14 years 5 laps or 3.5km
15 – 16 years 10 laps or 7km
17 – 18 years 15 laps 10.5km
Male and Female riders will race together in their age categories and will in the result classification by sex. And bike type being Road, Mountain and BMX.
Training conducted by Coach Leal
Vieux Fort and Beausejour Gros Islet Saturdays 9.00am
Meanwhile Coach Leal will continue conducting training sessions for riders in the south on Saturday November 30th 2013 from 9.00am at the National Stadium Car Park in Vieux Fort and in the north on Saturday December 7th 2013 in Beausejour near the Cricket Stadium.
He will be alternate his presence on Saturdays between these two venues
William Peter Boulevard Sundays 3.00pm to 5.00pm
On Sunday December 1st and 8th 2013 the William Peter Boulevard will be closed from 3.00pm to 5.00pm to facilitate training for young cyclist in the Castries area. Parents are encourages to bring their kids to practice and enjoy the cycling and training as coach Leal identifies talent from the young ones to develop into future champions.
