Only one of the two St. Lucian boxers who went to Guadeloupe last weekend for a boxing card there last Friday evening saw action in the ring.
Bantamweight 56kg Travis Maynard and Middleweight 75kg Arthur Langillier along with Coach Conrad Fredericks were the ones who made the trip to the Boxing Event staged by the Guadeloupan Provincial Committee in Morne a- lau Guadeloupe.
Arthur Langilier was the only one who saw action when he fought Claude Lesperance of Guadeloupe. Langillier who weighed in lighter than his opponent agreed to the fight and had the better of Lesperance on points in the three round contest.
The other boxer Maynard did not get a bout as his opponent Jeremy Solignac did not agree to the fight as although he and Maynard weighed in the same weight class he and his coach refused to fight as they complained that Maynard was more experienced.
Meantime, New Cuban Boxing Coach attached to the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Jorge Gonzalez Dominguez working along with the ST.Lucia Amateur Boxing Association, accompanied by Senior Boxers Arthur Langillier and Ron Bastien will be heading to Vieux Fort Friday afternoon to put on a training session with a number of new and upcoming boxers at the Rise Boxing Gym in Vieux Fort at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds.
They will work alongside Rise Gym Coach Ray John and Boxing Referee/Judge Cecil Kerr as the ST.Lucia Amateur Boxing Association continues in it’s efforts to decentralize the sport and to involve as many parts of ST.Lucia to the sport of boxing.
The session is expected to commence at 3.00 p.m. and anyone interested in coming into the sport of Boxing is welcome to attend the training session.
The ST.Lucia Amateur Boxing Association is also in the planning stages for two major boxing events to be held here this month to close of their 2013 programme in grand style.
A big exhibition card is planned for Friday December 13th national day at the Sab Sporting facility which will feature several of the island’s top boxers and some new female boxers who have recently enrolled in the programme of the ST.Lucia Amateur Boxing Association.
The other event is a boxing day boxing extravanganza to be held Thursday December 26th at a venue to be confirmed shortly featuring ST.Lucia’s top amateur boxers coming up against regional opponents from Trinidad and Tobago and Guadeloupe. ST. Lucia and Trinidad’s elite boxers earmarked for participation at the 2014 Commonwealth games will use this event as preparation for the games.
