A new champion will be crowned when the final of the second edition of the Hon. Shawn Edward Football Tournament rolls out this Sunday, December 8th at the La Ressource Playing Field in the Mabouya Valley between Rovers United and Survivals.
Rovers United will be making their second consecutive appearance in the final and will be hoping to go one better than they did last year after a penalty shootout defeat at the hands of Aux Lyons United whom they defeated in last week’s semi final. Having signaled their intentions very early on with a defeat of the defending champions, Survivals has enjoyed a good run in this tournament, booking their place into the final via a 1-0 defeat of 2013 Guinness/Mabouya Valley champions, Chesters. Come Sunday, they will be hoping that they can reverse the result of their previous encounter with Rovers this season where the latter humbled them by a 4-0 score line, therefore revenge and retribution will be on their minds. The final is set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. with a massive crowd expected to converge at La Ressource.
Preceding the final losing semi finalists, Aux Lyons United and Chesters will square off for Third Place honours. With both teams having had hopes of featuring in the final dashed away from them at the semi final stage, this match will be their opportunity for a consolation prize but one of great significance as not only will the trophy be at stake but bragging rights as well as a keen rivalry has began developing between supporters of these clubs. They will have to put last week’s disappointment behind them in order to put their best foot forward to capture this prize, for Aux Lyons it would have been relinquishing their title whilst Chesters were seeking to do the double this year following an earlier triumph. This match is expected to kick off at 1:30 p.m.
