The Saint Lucia Football Association has committed its support for the privately run Blackheart Knockout Football Tournament. That disclosure was made last evening by the F.A president, Lyndon Cooper.
Cooper was speaking at the Press Launch and Fixture Draw for this year’s edition of the popular football tournament. The event took place last evening at the Place Lounge of the Beausejour Cricket Ground.
Also speaking last night was the Managing Director and CEO of the Blackheart Organisation David “Shakes” Christopher encourages football administrators to work together to eliminate divisiveness in the various communities. Christopher believes the constant conflict does not bode well for the development of the sport.
Christopher also made an impassioned plea to all stakeholders to work together to remedy this malaise which continues to affect the game locally.
The Tournament, which gets underway on Saturday, will be played in accordance with the laws of the game set by FIFA and the local FA.
The winner will pocket $15, 000, the runner up receives $7,500.00, third place $3,500.00 and fourth place $1,500.00.
It was also revealed at last night’s event that the World Cup Football Trophy will stop here on October 21st as part of the Coca Cola World Cup tour.
To commemorate the occasion the 2013 Blackheart Champions will play a special match against a Coca Cola All Stars team with the World Cup Football Trophy on display at the Beausejour Cricket Ground.
The tournament will officially kick off on Saturday with a march pass following the quarter finals of the SLFA Royal Club Under 20 interdistrict football quarter finals will be played.
Saturday’s matches will feature Vieux Fort South vs Roseau Valley @ 6:30pm and Canaries vs Babonneau at 8:30.
