Pakistani off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq, the cricketer generally credited with the discovery of the much-acclaimed 'Doosra' delivery, is now set to provide his insights into the art of spin bowling in a three-week training camp for West Indies players in Barbados.
That is according to Saj Sadiq, senior editor at PakPassion.net. "Otis Gibson, the West Indies head coach, on behalf of the West Indies Cricket Board, asked me to work with the West Indian spinners, and I had no hesitation in saying yes. It's a new challenge for me, and one that I'm really looking forward to," the website quoted Saqlain yesterday.
The report added that, in Barbados, Saqlain would be mentoring budding players like Samuel Badree as well as world-class ones like Sunil Narine -- a fact that he recognises as an honour and a challenge.
Saqlain was recently asked by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to work with their own talented pool of upcoming spin bowlers on an annual basis, and he confirmed he would continue with that role once his work in Barbados concludes.
With experience of coaching spin bowlers for Bangladesh, New Zealand, Australia and England Lions, Mushtaq is confident that his knowledge and background will be of great value to the West Indian players.
