The Grand finals in the 2014 National Lotteries Veterans Cricket Festival will be contested between the Central Castries Veterans and the Gros Islet Veterans.
The Gros Islet Veterans booked their way into the finals after completing a narrow exciting 14 run victory over Mon Repos Veterans on Sunday at the Wenn Playing Field in Mon Repos.
Gros Islet won the toss an elected to take first knock made a respectful 189 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs with John Eugene leading the way with a typical enterprising knock of 87 which included 9 fours and 5 sixes. Good support also came from Nobert Charles with 36, and 22 each from Alton Crafton and Francis Wilson. Bowling for Mon Repos. Veterans, James Gaston 3 for 27 in 2 overs, Bernard Gaston 2 for 32 in 4 overs and one wicket each to Isidore Mathurine and Cladius Emmanuel.
Set 190 for victory, the Mon Repos Veterans fought gallantly in pursuit of victory but fell short at the end as they reached 175 for 8 in their allocated 20 overs with useful scores came from Gracious Desartes who contributed 39, Marcian Peter with 35, Denis James 34 not out and Nicholas Jn Baptiste 17. For the Gros Islet Veterans Petrus Reynolds was the most successful bowler picking up 3 for 39 in 4 overs. Good support also came from Hyacinth St Omer, Nobert Charles, John Eugene and Randolph Joseph who all picked up 1 wicket each.
