The visiting Victoria College out of the United Kingdom registered their first victory on Saint Lucian soil when they defeated a Dennery Under-15 team by 47 runs in a 35-overs-per-side match at the Dennery Cricket Ground over the weekend.
Winning the toss and batting, Victoria College totalled 194 before being dismissed in 29.5 overs with their main contributors being opener, David Bourne with 37 from 52 balls, and Jonny Heward, who top-scored with 57 from 63 balls. The two featured in a second-wicket stand of 112 which ended in the 20th over.
For Dennery, Daniel Augustin suffocated the innings in the 28th over with a hat-trick to end with the impressive figures of five wickets for 35 runs from 6.5 overs.
Dennery began their chase in thrilling fashion as Zacary Edmund peppered Archie Hamilton with five fours in the first over, but their chances of mounting a serious challenge evaporated when Edmund was dismissed for 43 made from just 26 balls with seven fours and a six. Safan Laurent with 21 and Jealene Jn.Baptiste with 17 not out added 40 from 45 balls for the 7th wicket but strange defensive rather than attacking batting thereafter provided the English kids with a very comfortable victory.
Ben Tait and Will Packman led the visitors’ bowling with 3 for 8 and 3 for 18 respectively.
Victoria College 194 all out in 29.5 overs.
Dennery Under-15s 147 all out in 30.2 overs.
