The Saint Lucia Basketball Federation (SLBF) in collaboration with the St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce is scheduled to host their 2nd Basketball League. This year KFC has come on as Platinum Sponsor and league will be called the 2014 KFC Commercial Basketball League.
The Press Conference to launch the competition was held at the St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce conference room on Wednesday August 6th teams were informed of the rules and draw was held for the team groupings.
The league consists of 15 teams namely defending champions Royal St. Lucia Police Force, St. Lucia Fire Service, Sandals High Risers, Inland Revenue Department, Scotiabank, Renwick & Company Limited, Insurance All Stars, Media Association, Goddard Group of Companies, ECFH, and new comers Ministry of Public Service, Sandals Trail Blazers, LIME, Digicel and The Bodyholiday (Le Sport).
The format for this year’s league has changed and includes 3 groups of 5 teams each. Each group will play a round robin in the 1st of each group will qualify automatically for the quarterfinals along with the next two top teams of all the groups based on their win/loss record. The quarterfinals will see 8 teams face off in an elimination round, where the winner of each game will move onto the semifinals which follow the same format. The winner of the two semifinals will play for the championship and the losers for 3rd
The competition is set to bounce off on Friday, August 22nd The first will see Group C action between Scotia Bank against new comers Sandals High Risers at 7pm and the second game will be a rematch of last year’s finals when the Fire Service with revenge on their mind will have a second attempt to hose down the boys in blue, defending champions Royal St. Lucia Police Force at 9pm.
All games will be held at the Beausejour Indoor Facility on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays with games beginning at 6pm on all three days. Entrance fee for all games is only $5.00 and there will be double-headers on every game night.
