2011 Blackheart Knockout Football champions Anse La Raye have given themselves a very good chance of being in the 2014 Blackheart Knockout Football tournament, after they registered a two goals to nil win over La Clery in the first leg of the Northern Zone play off qualifiers for the 2014 Blackheart Knockout Football Tournament last evening at the Gros Islet playing Field.
In a highly charged tense encounter Anse La Raye got goals in both halves from Tyson Ashton and Erickson Reid. Ashton was shown a red card after scoring for over zealous celebration or overcelebration of his goal which included kicking the corner post.
La Clery fought hard in the encounter and had chances to get the ball at the back of the net but it was not to be as they lost 2-0 and were frustrated at their efforts in the match, the occasion got to one of their players former national midfielder Tafari Charlemagne who just before the end of the encounter was shown a red card for dissent and insulting and abusive language to the match officials and he alledgedly threw a bottle of water at one of the match officials. Many players in the La Clery camp- also joined in the abuse of the official after the encounter.
The second leg of this encounter will be played at the Marigot Playing Field at a date to announced. La Clery are not yet out of the tie as a two nil win for them in the second leg will see the tie move into extra time and penalties if needed or a win by two clear goals for La Clery can see them advance to the play off final
The first leg of the Southern Zone play off Qualifying tie between Mon Repos and Choiseul has been tentatively scheduled for the A-wen playing field in Mon Repos on Wednesday August 30th from 4.30 p.m.
Meantime two warm matches were played yesterday afternoon at the Gros Islet Playing field as teams continue to fine tune their preparations for the 2014 Blackheart Knockout Football Tournament set to kick off on September 20th.
In the first encounter last years losing Blackheart finalist Babonneau had the better of Roseau Valley two goals to nil with both goals for Babonneau coming from Junior “car –way” Willie while in the other encounter Marchand had a hard fought one goal to nil win over the defending Blackheart champions Gros Islet.
Marchand ‘s goal came from a fine header from their veteran prolific striker Lincoln Phillip who nodded home an exquisite right side cross in the last minute of the encounter.
More warm up and play off action for the 2014 Knockout Football Tournament will continue this coming weekend at a venue to be announced.
