Saint Lucia Set to host Caribbean Under-16 Netball
St Lucia will be hosting the Jean Pierre Caribbean U16 Youth Championship in April 2015. In this regard, the President of the Caribbean Netball Association (CNA), Mrs. Kathy Harper-Hall, will pay a courtesy call on the Executive of the Netball Association during an official visit from Wednesday 4th to Friday 6thMarch 2015.  Mrs. Harper-Hall’s visit is primarily to ascertain the level of preparedness of St Lucia to host the said tournament.

More Records for the West Indies as they Lose to South Africa
South Africa bowled West Indies out for 151 and won by 257 runs in Sydney today in the latest Cricket World Cup Group B action.

South Africa piled up 408/5 thanks to AB de Villiers' 162 off 66 balls, the fastest 150 ever, before Imran Tahir picked 5/45 as West Indies collapsed to a humiliating defeat at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

SALCC, Corinth and Choiseul Pick up Wins in Massy United Schools Cricket
In the latest results of the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Massy United Insurance Under 19 School Cricket Tournament played on Thursday, victories were recorded by Sir Arthur Lewis over Entrepot Secondary, Corinth Secondary over Babonneau Secondary and Choiseul Secondary over Soufriere Comprehensive.

At the Monchy Playing Field, Sir Arthur Lewis completed a comfortable 8 wicket victory over Entrepot Secondary.  Entrepot Secondary batting first, never really settled and were eventually dismissed for 88 in 17.2 overs with Tyrel Chicot and Travis Papin making 15 each and 14 to Trevor Norley.  Off spinner Jamie Mathurin was Sir Arthur Lewis' leading wicket taker with 5 for 13 in 4.2 overs. He was supported by Simeon Dalkhan who took 2 for 26 in 4 overs and one wicket each for Adeju Hobson and Millan David.

Saint Lucia'ss National Under 17 team off to Honduras
St. Lucia’s U17 Men's National Football Team left the island this morning for Trinidad and Tobago this morning, the team under the leadership of coach Cassim Vaso Louis is on its way to Honduras, where they will contest the 2015 CONCACAF Under-17 Championship.

According to the head coach, Team Saint Lucia is determined not to be intimidated by bigger nations, when the tournament kicks off later this week.

 Wins for SALCC, Clendon Mason and Gros Islet in the Massy United Cricket Competition
The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Massy United Insurance Under 19 School Cricket Tournament resumed on Tuesday after the long Independence celebrations weekend with victories for Sir Arthur Lewis over SDA Academy,  Gros Islet Secondary over Castries Comprehensive  and Clendon Mason Memorial over Micoud Secondary.

At the Monchy Playing Field, Sir Arthur Lewis registered a comfortable  107 run victory over SDA Academy.  Batting first,  Sir Arthur Lewis made 253 for 4 in their allotted 28 overs with Nyhymn Terrance top scoring with 61 not out. Other useful contributions came from Adeju Hobson with 43 not out, 41 each from Christian Charlery and Millan David and 25 from Simeon Dalkhan. Rumario Simmons was SDA Academy's best bowler picking up 2 for 19 in 6 overs.

Viv Richards Hails Chris Gayle's Match-Winning Record Double Hundred But Calls for More Consistency
Chris Gayle's double century against Zimbabwe was "the stuff champions are made of", says former West Indies captain Sir Viv Richards.

The Jamaican opener scored 215 against Zimbabwe on Tuesday - the first double-ton in World Cup history and only the fourth in one-day internationals.

Since being stunned by Ireland in their opening match, West Indies have won easily against Pakistan and Zimbabwe.

Windward Islands Volcanoes Win Again, Inside of Three Days

Windward Islands Volcanoes easily trounced the luckless Leeward Islands Hurricanes by nine wickets yesterday, to remain a serious contender for the WICB Professional Cricket League title.

Set an uncomplicated target of 83, the Windwards needed just 74 balls to complete victory at the Beausejour Cricket Ground, about 45 minutes after lunch on the penultimate day of their seventh round encounter.

Chris Gayle Sets a World Cup Record and Sets up a Second West Indies Win in a Row
Chris Gayle has made the highest ever score at the cricket World Cup, belting 215 before being caught out on the final ball of the innings.

It ended a century drought, which stretched back to June 2013, as he guided the Windies to a total of  2-372 against Zimbabwe in the drizzle at Manuka Oval on Tuesday.

One of the oldest rivalries in Caribbean sport will take centre stage, when reigning champions and second-placed Barbados Pride host front-runners Guyana Jaguars in the key match of the seventh round in the WICB Professional Cricket League Regional 4-Day Tournament, starting on Friday at Kensington Oval.

The two sides will keep a very close eye on developments at the Beausejour Cricket Ground which the struggling Leeward Islands Hurricanes will use as their home venue against regular home team and third-placed Windward Islands Volcanoes.

Darren Sammy Among the Players Fighting for Fitness Ahead of the West Indies Clash with Pakistan
Former West Indies captain Darren Sammy is feeling the effects of a stiff back but is determined to play, when West Indies come up against Pakistan in their second match of the ICC Cricket World Cup against Pakistan on Saturday (Friday evening Caribbean time).

Sammy stroked a wonderful 89 in the opening loss to Ireland and is now struggling to be fully fit ahead of the must-win second match. News coming from the West Indies camp is that the St Lucian will play “no matter what”, given the perilous position that the West Indies finds itself in.

Micoud Secondary and Gros Islet Secondary earn Wins in Massy United Insurance Under 19 Cricket

The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Massy United Insurance Under 19 Schools Cricket Tournament continued on Thursday with wins for Micoud Secondary over George Charles Secondary and Gros Islet Secondary over Entrepot Secondary.

At the Gros Islet Playing Field, Gros Islet Secondary won the toss and took first knock, made 261 for 9 in their allotted 32 overs with Melvin Doxilly top scoring with 48. Other useful scores came from Marlon Bernard with 42, Christopher Koulen 37, Lindon St. Juste 25, female player Qiana Joseph 21 and Quain Jones 20 not out.  Bowling for Entrepot Secondary, Trevor Norley 4 for 40 in 7 overs and Craig Elisee 3 for 54 in 7 overs.  In reply, Entrepot Secondary was bowled out for 111 in 22 overs with Kyle Adonis 29 the only batsman to offer any resilience. Doing the damage for Gros Islet Secondary were female player Qiana Joseph who bowled impressively with her left arm seamers finishing with 5 for 19 in 6 overs and Melvin Doxilly 4 for 40 in 5 overs.

Saint Lucia has a New National Record in Women's Truiple Jump
Sandisha Antoine, the 23-year-old former CARIFTA champion and French Under-23 champion, established the new mark recently in Martinique, where she has lived and trained for years.

Competing at the 2ème Tour des Hivernages in Fort de France, Sandisha had a best effort of 13.24m. Registered with the club Asco Inter Atlas, it was the furthest the southern native has gone since 2013, when she set the previous National Record of 13.20 in mainland France.

Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School Gets a New Court from the St. Lucia Volleyball Association

Students of the Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School got a pleasant gift on Monday morning. Over the weekend, a team from the St. Lucia Volleyball Association laid a brand new synthetic Sports Court at the school.  

The Court is A donation from the regional confederation, NORCECA, to the St. Lucia Volleyball Association.

Wins for Hess, Choiseul and Soufriere in Massy United Schools Cricket
The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Massy United Insurance Under 19 Schools Cricket Tournament continued on Wednesday with victories for Leon Hess Comprehensive over Babonneau Secondary, Soufriere Comprehensive over Vieux Fort Comprehensive La Ressource and Choiseul Secondary over Piaye Secondary.

At the Monchy Playing Field, Leon Hess Comprehensive earned a well deserved 30 run victory over Babonneau Secondary.  Leon Hess batting first was dismissed for 195 in 37.1 overs with the main contributions coming from Brandt Jean with 27, Michael Williams 25 and Carl Drakes 24. For Babonneau Secondary, the main wicket takers were spinners, Christian Alfred who picked up 5 for 46 in 7.1 overs and Rene Montoute 3 for 34 in 8 overs. Babonneau's wicket keeper Kimani Melius had a very good time behind the stamps as he effected 6 stampings during  Leon Hess' inning.

Levern Spencer Wins 2014 St Lucia Sportswoman of the Year Award
The Caribbean’s number-one high jumper, Levern Spencer, has come in for high praise from LIME once again following her success in winning the 2014 St Lucia Sportswoman of the Year award.
 
Levern captured the Sportswoman of the Year title for the 12th time, underscoring her dominance in her sport and her unquestionable status as the Caribbean’s leading high jumper of all time. Her victory comes in the wake of her phenomenal wins in two international competitions in Mexico, prior to which she had captured the women’s high jump at the Auburn Invitational in Alabama USA, setting a new meet record. Earlier in the year, she made it to the IAAF World Indoor Championships finals, placing seventh, reportedly the best-ever result by a Saint Lucian at a global sporting event.

Massy United Insurance Schools Under 19 Cricket Tournament Begins

The 2015 Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Massy United Insurance Schools Under 19 Cricket Tournament bowled off on Tuesday February 17 with two matches.

At the Monchy Playing Field, SDA Academy completed a comfortable 3 wicket victory over Castries Comprehensive Secondary.  Taking first knock, Castries Comprehensive was dismissed for 169 in 26 overs with the main contributors being Ardil Barlow with 30, Joshua Lecompte 19, Dequane Vite 18 and Shaqine Edgar 12.  Bowling for SDA Academy, Arnil Charles 4 for 24 in 6 overs, Rumario Simmons 3 for 18 in 6 overs and one wicket each to Dudley Charles and Shalyk St. Juste.

Jamaica Cricket Association Supports Whycliffe ‘Dave’ Cameron for WICB Presidency

The Jamaica Cricket Association members and affiliates voted 67-22 on Tuesday to support Jamaican incumbent  Whycliffe ‘Dave’ Cameron for the presidency of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).

On February 3, the JCA board of directors had voted 10-6 to back cricket legend Joel Garner, leading to a split across the association after some members became disgruntled.

Crisis in the Sport of Track and Field Athletics
The head of world athletics has admitted the sport faces "a crisis" over allegations of doping by Russian competitors.

Speaking to the BBC, Lamine Diack, president of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) said: "It's a difficult crisis but we will put it behind us by cleaning all this."

In December, a German TV documentary claimed Russian officials systematically accepted payment from athletes to supply banned substances and cover up tests.
