Coca Cola/LIME ITF Junior Tennis in Full Swing this Week

St. Lucia is playing host to more than 200 junior tennis players from around the world who are here to compete in the 2015 Coca Cola/LIME ITF Junior Tennis Tournament.

Saint Lucia Swimming concludes at World Champs
The splash dash and most exciting event of the Championships, the Mens 50M Freestyle, was the first event of the morning session contested by some of the fastest swimmers in the world including 2012 Olympic Gold medalist Florent Manadou of France for a spot in the semi finals this evening.

Pantime Representing Saint Lucia at International Panorama
Pantime Steel Orchestra have been the most dominant force in Saint Lucia in recent times, as their three consecutive victories at the annual Panorama competition would attest. Now, the pan troupe is taking its talents to Trinidad and Tobago.

Founding in 2000 by Cecile "Tortee” Philgence, the band's goal goal has always been the development of young people through music, specifically the steel pan art form. Pantime has also won the Junior Panorama competition twice in a row.

Grenada Beat Saint Lucia In CONCACAF U20
Grenada beat Saint Lucia 4-2 in the second game of the CONCACAF Women's Under-20 Tournament, Caribbean Zone Group 2.

Playing on Tuesday evening at Mindoo Phillip Park in Castries, Saint Lucia, the Grenadians were coming off an 0-5 loss to Jamaica, whilst this was the first game for the home team in the three-team group.

Jamaica Girlz Beat Grenada In CONCACAF Women's U20
A hat trick by Jamaica captain Khadija Shaw helped sink Grenada in the opening match of the CONCACAF Women's Under-20 Championship, Caribbean Zone Group 2. Playing at the Mindoo Phillip Park in Castries, Saint Lucia, the Reggae Girlz kicked off against the Spice Girls from 4pm on Sunday, 26 July.

Needing to place in the top two to guarantee advancement to the regional finals in Haiti, Jamaica got off to a flying start before a small crowd.

Saint Lucia To Host Women’s Football Championship

The Saint Lucia Football Association is set to host international football again this month. Mindoo Phillip Park will be the venue for the Caribbean Zone Group 2 of the 2015 CONCACAF Women's Under-20 Championship.

 

Grenada and Jamaica will be the other two participating teams. Jamaica will open against Grenada on 26 July. Saint Lucia start their campaign versus Grenada on 28 July, and the home team wraps up against Jamaica on 30 July.

Elite Youth Players Will Be Evaluated by Coaches From Manchester United and Dundee United Coaches

Elite under 15 footballers and their coaches from grassroots football programs who are a part of the northern High Performance Center (HPC) will get the opportunity to be coached and scouted by coaches from two major European clubs. The players and coaches will participate in a four day (4) camp starting on Monday July 13th at the SAB playing field. The facilitators for the camp are from Manchester United of the English Premier League and Dundee United which placed fifth (5th) in the Scottish Premier League.

The camp will include theoretical classroom sessions for the coaches followed by practical sessions involving the coaches and players. The aim of the coaching course is to provide the local coaches with methodologies and coaching strategies to develop elite youth players. For the youth players, the professional coaches will conduct evaluations of their technical abilities, fitness levels, understanding of the game and attitude towards the sport.

Former FIFA Vice President Charged in Cayman Islands Fraud Case
GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands (CNS) -- The former FIFA vice president and Cayman Islands football boss, Jeffrey Webb, has been charged with fraud and breach of trust in relation to a local hospital card payment case.

Canover Watson and Miriam Rodrigues are also facing further charges in relation to the ongoing local investigation into the CarePay Card contract, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) said in a statement on Friday. While Watson and Rodrigues are expected to appear in court on Tuesday, a warrant has been issued for Webb’s arrest.

2015 KFC National Basketball League Results

Courts Jets remain champions after they successfully retained their title in the KFC National Basketball Premier League championships, defeating the VBCC Warlords this past weekend in game 3 at the Beausejour Indoor Facility.

Jets facing an early 1-0 series deficit, came back to win the final two games of the best of 3 series to claim their 6th successive title in as many years over their bitter rivals VBCC Warlords.  Congratulations to the Courts Jets team and organization for their achievement and continued dominance in Premier League Basketball.

Martinique wins 2015 Creole Boxing championships, St. Lucia Finishes in Third Place

Host country Martinique emerged champions of the 2015 Creole Boxing championships which end there Saturday evening.

The Martiniquans at home and fielding more boxers than any of the other teams in most of the divisions contested finished on top with 6 gold medals, 8 silver medals and 4 bronze medals for 38pts. Guadeloupe finished in second place on 23 pts after collecting Five gold medals and four bronze medals while St. Lucia were third just one point behind Guadeloupe on 22pts with Four Gold medals, Four silver Medals and Two bronze medals.

2015 Hero Caribbean Premier League Match Report 12

St Lucia Zouks (202-5) Beat Barbados Tridents (172-7) by 30 Runs
After losing to the Barbados Tridents in their last match the St Lucia Zouks got their revenge with a comprehensive victory over the same opposition in the Hero Caribbean Premier League. Andre Fletcher extended his lead as the top run scorer in the tournament and Kevin Pietersen made his first CPL half century as the Zouks scored 202-5 off their 20 overs, the largest total that the St Lucian side have made in their history. The Tridents could never get the required rate under control as they fell to just their second defeat of this year’s event.

West Indies to Participate in Zimbabwe Tri-Series

West Indies will take part in a tri-series in Zimbabwe in August-September along with the hosts and Pakistan, the WICB has confirmed. It means there could be a straight contest between the two visiting sides for the eighth and last Champions Trophy spot, although the PCB and Zimbabwe Cricket are yet to confirm the scheduling of the series.

West Indies and Pakistan are currently ranked eighth and ninth in the ICC ODI rankings, with only a point separating them. Only the top-seven sides as on September 30, apart from hosts England, will make it to the 2017 Champions Trophy.

Gayle Fireworks Stuns St. Lucia Zouks

Chris Gayle’s spectacular unbeaten 90 blew away St Lucia Zouks and fired Jamaica Tallawahs to their first win of the 2015 Caribbean Premier League here Sunday.

Tallawahs restricted Zouks to a paltry 118 for nine off their 20 overs and then raced to their target off a mere ten overs, to complete a convincing ten-wicket victory at the Beausejour Cricket Stadium.

BBC and Combined Schools Gets Division 1 Best of 3 Finals in the KFC National Basketball League

BBC and Combined Schools got the Division 1 Best of 3 Finals in the KFC National Basketball League underway this past Sunday at the Beausejour Indoor Facility. 

Game 1 between the two youthful and athletic teams lived up to the hype as both teams were determined to win game 1.  Overtime was needed to separate the two teams with BBC edging Schools team 65 – 64 in a nail biting finish.  For his influence in the game particularly overtime Rahim Auguste was the KFC player of the game finishing with 20pts, 6rebs and 5 steals.  Kurt Raphael had a huge double-double of 18pts and 18rebs and Craig Fontelio had 14pts and 10rebs for BBC.  For Combined Schools, Pakel Gumbs was an unmovable force in the middle for his 22pts and 25rebs.  Tristan James added 17pts and 10rebs in their loss.  BBC now leads the 3-game series 1-0 going into game 2 on Saturday June 27th at 6pm.

Guinness Street Football Challenge Caribbean Finals this Weekend

The Guinness Street Football Challenge Caribbean finals set to take place on June 27-28 will see a special appearance by Guinness ‘Made of More’ ambassador and former French international football star Marcel Desailly.

The renowned footballer is well-known as a member of the enigmatic French football team which won FIFA World Cup in 1998, as well as the European Championship in 2000. The professional footballer popular for his unique style and combination of defensive, physical and mental skills, was also included in 2004 as one of the world’s greatest living players on the ‘FIFA 100’ list of notable footballers compiled by notorious Brazilian football legend, Pele.

The riders will travel from the Mon Repos Gas station, travel to Vieux Fort, cover 5 laps around the Vieux Fort La Resource Circuit and return to Mon Repos covering a distance of 96km.

West Indies Looking to Bounce Back in the Second Test Against Australia at Sabina Park
Having secured a comprehensive nine-wicket victory in three days in the opening Test against West Indies at Windsor Park, Australia will be looking to continue in the same vein at Sabina Park.
