Four Men charged in Connection to the Homicide of 35 Yr Old Male

Four men have been charged in connection to the homicide of 35 year old Ulanda Frederick of La Clery, Castries.

They are 31 year old Samuel Khodra, 35 year old Timothy Desmond, 25 year old Dillan “Shattoo” Edmund and 20 year old Daniel Khodra, all of Leslie Land, Castries.

The men were also charged for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.

New Monarch Crowned for the Inter-Commercial House Calypso Competition

A new monarch has been crowned. Out of a total of 13 contenders in the Inter-Commercial House Calypso Competition only four have been named as the top performers.

The event which organizers describe as electrifying was staged last night at the National Cultural Centre.

Dennery Hospital Now Complete
Renovation works on the Dennery Hospital are now complete and the facility is expected to formally reopen its doors later today.

The Hospital was built in 1954, and is a Community - Based Health Care Facility serving the communities from Barre De Lisle in the north to Praslin in the south with a total of approximately ten thousand people.

Ministry of Tourism, Heritage and Creative Industries Invites Public and Private Sector Agencies to Validation Workshop
The Ministry of Tourism, Heritage and Creative Industries has concluded a series of consultations as part of a structured approach to encourage dialogue and consensus among stakeholders in the identification and definition of a responsive incentives regime to develop the industry.

Against this background, representatives from various public and private sector agencies have been invited to deliberate on the incentives recommended by sector operators to advance the industry.  The validation workshop will be held on July 15, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. at the Royal Saint Lucian Hotel, Reduit.

RSLPF Investigates Shooting Death of Morne Du Don Male
The Major Crime Unit of the Royal St. Lucia Police Force (RSLPF), is investigating the shooting death of 28 year old Clint Salvator of Agard, Morne Du Don.

About 10:50 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2014, officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) responded to a report of shots being fired at Agard, Morne Du Don.

More Locals React to Artiste's Disqulification from the Power Soca Monarch Competition
There is no shortage of reaction to a decision taken by the St Lucia Calypso Association to disqualify Claudius “J Mouse” Edmund from further participation in the Power Soca Monarch Competition.

The news broke on Radio Caribbean International on Thursday morning during the Real Talk segment prompting swift calls for a hearing from the management of the sidelined artiste.

The Saint Lucia Calypso Association Responds to Criticism on Artiste's Disqualification
The Saint Lucia Calypso Association (2009) has responded to heavy criticism being levelled at the organization by sections of the public since the announcement of the disqualification of one of the artistes in the Power Soca Monarch competition.

A statement issued earlier today has place the responsibility for the fate of Claudius J Mouse Edmund squarely on the shoulders on the Take Over Tent. The association claims that the argument put forth that the Take Over Tent of the Saint Lucia Calypso Association (2009) allowed an underage performer to participate in a competition only to later disqualify him holds no weight.

Junior Carnival Parade Set for Sunday July 13th
The Junior Carnival Parade is all set for Sunday July 13th at the William Peter Boulevard in Castries.

A total of six bands are expected to portray all their products before the judges Parade Coordinator Leslie Ann Modeste says the parade will also include an exhibition of the King and Queen of the Kiddies bands.

State of Emergency Extended to Cover the Entire Island
A water emergency which was issued for the North of the island in March this year has been further extended to cover the entire island.

That's according to Water Resource Management Officer Fitzgerrald John, who explained that since the announcement was initially made the drought situation has worsened.

St. Lucians to pay more for Electricity this Monthend
St. Lucians will now have to pay more for electricity this month-end, as the cost of living continues an upward spiral.

This comes following an increase in the tax charged by the Government, on fuel purchased by Saint Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) came into effect on June 16, 2014 when the statutory instrument for that purpose was published in the Saint Lucia Gazette.

Artiste Disqualified from contending for the title of Power Soca Monarch by the St Lucia Calypso Association
A decision has been taken to disqualify one artiste from contending for the title of Power Soca Monarch by the St Lucia Calypso Association.

The announcement comes following claims that the Calypso Association has discovered a breach on the part of Claudius J Mouse Edmund, who had cleared the semi-final round and had been named as a finalist in the competition.

CID Investigates 3 Shooting Incidents which took place over the Weekend
It was a busy weekend for local lawmen attached to the Criminal Investigations Department, (CID) who responded to three separate non- fatal shooting incidents within the Castries basin.

Investigations have been launched into the shooting of 20 year old Quain Jn Louis of Leslie Land, Castries sustained multiple gunshots to the body, while on Chausee Road, Castries. The incident occurred about 8:45 p.m. on Friday, July 4, 2014.

Number of Cases of Chikungunia Virus in the Caribbean Rises

The number of suspected and confirmed cases of the Chikungunia Virus in the Caribbean countries has risen sharply over the past weeks.

Tens of thousands of new cases have been reported in the Dominican Republic and neighbour, Haiti. There is currently no vaccine or treatment for the mosquito-born virus which resembles Dengue Fever and can cause fever, skin rash and joint pain.

RSLPF Investigates Murder of La Clery Woman

The Major Crime Unit of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Fore (RSLPF) has launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of 35 year old Ulanda 'Jordan' Frederick of La Clery, Castries.

About 8:15pm on Tuesday July 1, 2014, officers responded to a report of a shooting at Leslie Land, Castries. Upon arrival, they received information that Frederick was in the Leslie Land area when she sustained multiple gunshot wounds about the body.

Countries Urged to Address Outstanding Contributions Owed to CDEMA

Countries in the region are being called upon to address the $1.2 million in outstanding contributions owed to the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA).

Barbados' Minister of Home Affairs Adriel Braithwaite made the call, stressing that CDEMA could do a lot more for countries in the region if it was given the necessary resources during the opening ceremony of the Fifth Meeting of the Council of CDEMA at Hilton Barbados recently.
