Department of Fisheries Condems Hunting of the Endangered Hawksbill Turtle
The Hacking of a Hawksbill Turtle on the Reduit Beach this week has been categorically condemned by the Department of Fisheries.

This comes after the remains were found by officials on Wednesday. It is believed that the act was committed on Monday this week.

Local Seventh Day Adventist Church Assist Families Affected by Recent Fire
Less than one week after the devastating fire of June 1st which destroyed four (4) houses and rendered eleven (11) persons homeless, the local Seventh Day Adventist Church has demonstrated Christian compassion by coming forward to assist the affected families. On Thursday, June 4th, 2015 the church through its Community Services Department made a donation of clothing and food items to the fire victims. During the visit, prayers were offered for the victims and an initial assessment of material needs for reconstruction was also carried out.

Calypso Show Set for  National Cultural Centre
The stage is set for the performers who will participate in the Calypso Show that is set for the National Cultural Centre this weekend.

The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday night, on the heels of what the St. Lucia Association of Registered Tents has described as a successful opening of the calypso season.

St Lucia Nurses Association President Comments on Shortage of Nursing Staff on Island
The St Lucia Nurses Association President says the commissioning of the New National Hospital will require additional manpower in the delivery of health care.

The observation comes as the organization conducts a series of tours to the health care institutions on the island and the level of concern already expressed about the shortage of nurses at the Victoria Hospital.

Ministry of Health Issues Public Caution to Prevent Heat Stroke During Current Dry, Hot Weather Conditions
As the dry hot weather continues to persist here, the Ministry of Health has issued a public caution on the  prevention of heat stroke and other related conditions.

The advice comes from Senior Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health Dr Sharon Belmar George, who highlights that heat stroke and heat related illness are caused by excessive exposure to a hot environment and is exacerbated by strenuous physical activity. It is worsened by the consumption of sweet drinks.

Police Commissioner Comments on News of Officers' Arrests for Stealing

The island’s acting Police Commissioner has reassured the public that the Royal St Lucia Police force has no reservations or difficulty in allowing the law to take its course in matters where lawmen are implicated in any form of wrongdoing.

The assurance comes following news that three police officers have been charged with stealing bail money at the Richfond Police station.

The issue came to light following an audit that revealed the missing funds.

Three Officers Arrested for Stealing
Three officers who were attached to the Dennery Police station have been arrested and charged for stealing.

Reports indicate that the officers have been accused of stealing a little under five thousand dollars in bail money at the Richfond Police Station.

Gros Islet Male Charged for Firearm Possession
On Sunday, May 30, 2015 the police formally charged 29 year old, Denver Melville of Reduit, Gros-Islet for the offence of possession of firearm.

Melville made a court appearance before the First District Court on Monday, June 1, 2015 where he was granted bail.

2015 Atlantic Hurricane Season Begins
The official start of the 2015 Atlantic Hurricane Season begins today despite activity being recorded outside the June to November period this year.

Tropical storm Anna ravaged parts of the Carolinas in the United States in early May and severe weather in Texas has caused some 27 million dollars in infrastructure damage last week.

Saint Lucia to Open Embassy in Republic of China (Taiwan)
Prime Minister, Hon.  Dr. Kenny D. Anthony, left the island on Saturday for the Republic of China (Taiwan). He leads a delegation to Taiwan for the Official Opening of the Embassy of Saint Lucia to the Republic of China (Taiwan).

The Embassy will be located in the International Trade Building in Taipei. The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 12:00pm.
