Babonneau Man Charged with Murder of Reduit Woman Makes 1st Court Appearance
The man who has been formally charged with the murder of a 52 year old Reduit woman made his first court appearance today.

James Bretney of Balata, Babonneau was formally charged with the murder of 52 year old, Sophia Delia Charles Didier on September 3rd.

Petroleum Prices to Decrease on Island
Consumers will benefit from further reductions in the prices of petroleum products when prices are adjusted today, Monday September 7, 2015.
 
The retail prices of gasoline and diesel will decrease by $1.01 and $0.46 per gallon, respectively.

Plans Underway for La Marguerite Festival
Despite what appears to be a low keyed emphasis on the La Woz Cultural Festival the Director of Events and Production at the Cultural Development Foundation, says this is far from the truth.

The festival which is observed annually on August 30, took place at the Rodney Bay strip with assistance from the Bay Walk and Rodney Bay malls.

St. Jude Hospital Donates Supplies to Dominica
St Jude Hospital has donated over six hundred pounds of relief supplies in aid of the recovery efforts in Dominica following the devastation left in the wake of Tropical Storm Erika last week.
 
Among the donated supplies are clothing for adults and children as well as gloves, gauze and female kits. The items, sourced from the hospital’s storage, will go towards helping the victims of the storm.

The number of homicides recorded for this year has increased by one, after a 50 year old man is found dead at his Vieux Fort home.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of David Mondesir of Hewanorra Orchard, Vieux Fort.

St. Lucia to Host to 16 Youth Ambassadors from the Republic of China (Taiwan)
St Lucia will from this weekend, play host to 16 Youth Ambassadors from the Republic of China (Taiwan), as part of that country’s International Youth Ambassadors Exchange Programme, which exposes participants to international affairs and give them a better understanding of Taiwan’s work in jurisdictions such as Saint Lucia.  

The 16 college students from music, dancing, performing arts and other fields will be accompanied by one professor from the performing arts, and two assistants.

Local Businesses Receive Accolade for Dominica Assistance
Members of the local business community have been singled out and commended for their contribution to the relief and aid effort for Dominica.

The accolades come from Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony, who has observed that the designated agencies have been working tirelessly to coordinate donations and assistance for Dominica in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Erika.

Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony Comments on Dominica's Recovery Efforts
A visit to storm ravaged Dominica by Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony has given him first-hand experience with the devastation left in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Emily.

According to Dr Anthony who left St Lucia for the nature isle via helicopter on Tuesday, the floodwaters which washed through villages there has left Dominicans counting their losses.

Public Assistance and Child Disability Grant Program Review Underway
A general review of  all Public Assistance and Child Disability Grant cardholders is expected to get underway here from September 7, 2015 to October 9, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily.

The Child Disability which commenced in July 2014 grant is administered by the Ministry of Social transformation and caters to individuals with disabilities under the age of 21.

Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony Embarks on Visit to the Commonwealth of Dominica
Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony left the island on Tuesday, September 1, to embarked on a visit to the Commonwealth of Dominica, where he will meet with Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, and observe first-hand the devastation from the passage of Tropical Storm Erika on Wednesday, August 26, 2015.
 
The Government of Saint Lucia was swift to respond to the plight of its Caribbean neighbour. The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force dispatched a team to support the Dominica police, with supplies from the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) and the Ministry of Health.  NEMO has also been spearheading the drive to gather supplies for Dominica.

Three Saint Lucians Rescued near Puerto Rico
The Consulate General of Saint Lucia in New York announced today the successful rescue of three Saint Lucian nationals, Lindel Ericson Allen, 30, of Goodlands; Antoine Jn Marie, 53, of Desrisseaux, Micoud; and Cirven Griffen, 28, of La Toc Road, Castries, who had been missing at sea for nearly seven days.

On August 26, 2015, at 3:30 A.M., Master, of the vessel Curacao Pearl, noticed a fishing boat, Jah Walks on the Water (registration number 761350), drifting southwest of Puerto Rico, with three distressed mariners aboard calling for help. At approximately 3:45 A.M., the three nationals, one of whom has a prosthetic leg, were picked up on deck with no documents or personal belongings. A brief investigation by the Master and his crew revealed that the boat carrying the men had been reported missing by Customs officials in Fort-de-France, Martinique, its final destination.

Government of Saint Lucia Continues to Urge all Saint Lucians to Provide Assistance to Dominica
As recovery efforts continue in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Erika, the Government of Saint Lucia continues to urge all Saint Lucians to provide assistance by responding to the needs of our neighbouring island, Dominica.
 
The headquarters of the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) in Bisee, as well as Post Offices around Saint Lucia have been designated as drop off locations for relief items.

Ministry of Health Launches National Weight Loss Competition
On Thursday August 27,2015, the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Human Services and Gender Relations launched it's inaugural Weight Loss Competition at the National Cultural Centre.

The competition among a total of 90 participants representing 9 health regions throughout the nation will measure Body Mass Index (BMI),Waist Circumference and other indicators.

Police investigations have opened into what has been registered as the 17th homicide for 2015.

On Sunday, August 30, 2015 about 5:00 a.m. officers from the Gros-Islet Police Station were dispatched to the Reduit Beach in Gros-Islet upon receiving certain information.
